Meet Our People: Amanda

3 min

Get to know our people that make up the Egan Reid Education team. We're catching up with customer service-superstar Amanda Keane, our Education Account Manager.

How long have you worked in the industry and at Egan Reid?

I've been an Account Manager for almost 30 years, 12 of them being with Egan Reid. I previously worked in print packaging.

Describe your role in four words.

Committed, motivated, enjoyable, rewarding.

What does your typical work day look like?

My day starts responding to any emails and processing any orders received. I then communicate with my contacts in schools, dealing with any enquiries and seeing if I can assist with pricing for any new and additional products, whilst continuing to take and process orders.

What have you achieved at Egan Reid that you’re particularly proud of?

The relationships I have built and continue to make with my contacts in schools. From the school office to finance depts and central MATs. Being trusted by them is my privilege.

Do you have a daily ritual at work that helps keep you feeling productive?

I am a big fan of a 'to do' list and love to review and reduce it. I also pride myself with dealing with customers enquiries as quickly as they are received. Hopefully all of my schools will agree that I am obsessive on customer service!

If you were to switch jobs with a colleague for a day, who would it be and why?

Probably my logistics colleagues to see what their day looks like. Visiting the schools would perhaps give me the opportunity to put a few more faces to names than I have been able to so far.

What did you want to be when you grew up?

I was due to continue my education doing French and Business Studies but was unexpectedly offered employment before embarking on it. Having a dad that worked for many years at Newcastle Airport, when I was young I always wanted to be the airport announcer on the tannoy! I often still think of that every time I am in an airport even now!

I always enjoyed playing 'schools' with my older sister too and though I never had a calling to be a teacher (I'll leave that vocation to my daughter), I always loved to buy stationery as a child and would choose that as a treat from parents/grandparents. It was meant to be!

Outside of work, how do you enjoy spending your time?

With family and friends. Walking the dog, being in the countryside, nice food, taking mum for afternoon tea. I'm very much becoming a fan of the weekend mini-break to break up the old routine!

Are you reading any books currently?

Donna Ashworth- I Wish I Knew. I Love anything with words of encouragement and affirmation.

What’s on your bucket list?

For our silver wedding anniversary next year, I would love to take our now grown-up children to where we went on our honeymoon and sip a cocktail in Raffles, Singapore, as we did all those years ago. It would be a real 'pinch me' moment!

Heard any good tips lately?

When things aren't going right, turn left.
